Meeting at 344 Wash[]

When Captain Oliver Queenan sees on the roof of the 344 Wash with Billy Costigan, Delahunt calls Costigan on the phone to tell him to come in and get the mole. Queenan orders Billy to take the fire escape and escape, and Queenan remains on the top floor, finding no escape. D

elahunt, Fitzy and other men reach him with the elevator, but Queenan gave no information on the infitrator, so they threw him from the top floor window. While Billy's running he is almost hit by Queenan's body while he was landing. Billy is seen by Costello's men and goes with them, but there is a shootout between the Internal Investigation cops and the mobsters, which will cause Delahunt's chest injury. After that the mobsters get on the van and run away.

He was bleeding on a couch at the gang's hideout when Fitz came over and told him that a doctor was coming but traffic was slowing him down. He called over Costigan and revealed that he knew Billy was the rat because he knew to go to 344 Wash even though Delahunt mistakenly told him to 314 Wash. Delahunt was explaining to Billy why he didn't let Costello and the others know, but he died before he said it. The evening of that day Fitzy takes care of hiding the corpse in the Fenway marshes. The afternoon of the following day Delahunt's body is found, but not yet identified. The newspapers then report that the Boston police identified Delahunt's body, and are told that he was an undercover officer of the Boston Police. Frank Costello says he suspects the police department is only claiming Delahunt is a cop so he wouldn’t look for the mole.

Trivia[]

At one point in the film, during a meeting with Queenan and Sean Dignam, Billy Costigan mentions that a year has passed, coming to 2007. In the Colin Sullivan phone the date is "Mar 16,06", or March 16, 2007 (2006, it is a plot error, as Kennefick died in September of this year). On this day the affair between the Chinese mob and Costello takes place. They pass six months, expressed by Billy, four from the Chinese deal. The events that follow take place day after day, and Timothy Delahunt's death takes place five days after the deal (16), making it July 21, 2007.
